I had a fantastic time talking about inclusion at South West Peer Support Conference 2019 and I am looking forward to bringing back all the amazing things I learned from everyone today. My lightning talk went fantastically and I was thrilled to be approached after with questions/comments.

Peer support is inherently inclusive in its intentions however there is still a long way to go to ensure there is inclusivity; not just diversity. Often we address diversity but not necessarily how we can move this to be inclusive of every person, no matter what.

We must provide a safe space where all people feel they belong. It is through this belonging that we can be inclusive in our support and break down barriers that result in self-segregation of groups a lack of community in institutions. In an age where mental health is paid so much attention to, we must be aware of the role inclusivity has to play in the wellbeing of staff and students in institutions. As peer support we are in a position to bring these issues back and implement change to better our systems.

I look forward to working with Cardiff University Mentoring and specifically School of History, Archaeology, and Religion mentors as Lead Consultant to implement these discussions to create a more inclusive environment for our community.
